The Intro to Disability short course is ideal for those who are seeking a refresher or starter package to work in disability care. This is one of Bestwest Care’s non-accredited short courses, designed to equip you with the basic essentials to work in disability care work.
You’ll be introduced to disability, infection control, learn first aid, manual handling, how to assist with medications, and support with dysphagia management.

Training Location
Classroom sessions are held at Unit 8 / 40 Meares Ave, Kwinana, Western Australia. Bestwest Care services individuals and businesses seeking quality local training in Perth’s southern suburbs, including Rockingham and Mandurah. Our training centre is close to bus and train public transport.
Course Dates
The Intro to Disability course is self-paced, running over a minimum of 2 weeks.
Course Delivery
This includes 2 days of practical classes in person, at Bestwest Care Training Rooms, plus online theory at home.
Topics Covered Include:
- HLTAID011 Provide First Aid (1 day plus online theory)
- Manual Handling (4 hours)
- HLTHPS006 Assist with Medications (1 day)
- Intro to Disability Work including Infection Control (Online)
- HLTAHA013 Provide Support with Dysphagia Management (3 hours)
Enrolment Requirements:
As this course includes nationally recognised units, you will need a basic level of physical competency to meet the necessary performance level required. This means you need to be able to perform CPR on an adult and infant manikin placed on the floor for a period of two minutes and respond to an emergency situation where there may be risk to life.
You are not required to have any prior medical training before enrolling in this course and it is appropriate for both first-time learners and as a refresher course.
As an Elective Unit
The Intro to Disability short course is designed to equip you with the basic essentials to work in disability care work. It is aimed at Care Workers and is strongly recommended for all staff providing personal care.
The course includes a bundle of short courses which can also be completed in isolation if required.
