HLTHPS006 Overview
HLTHPS006 Assist Clients with Medications course is a unit of competency, providing you with the skills and knowledge to assist clients with their medication in a safe and supportive manner.
It is recommended anyone interested in completing the full accredited competency to contact Bestwest Care to discuss the course requirements in more detail.
Course Options
Choose from either Non-Accredited or Accredited medication competency course options. Both require one day in class, covering the theory of assisting with medications and the practical skills required. The difference between the two is the Accredited option requires a Workplace Assessment, organised by the learner.

Training Location
Classroom sessions are held at Unit 8 / 40 Meares Ave, Kwinana, Western Australia. Bestwest Care regularly services businesses from Rockingham, seeking quality local training courses. Close to bus and train public transport.
Course Delivery
This course includes online pre-course theory, plus 2 hours of classroom training at Bestwest Care Training Rooms.
Group bookings can be made for 10+ attendees at workplaces. Enquire with our staff.

Full Unit of Competency (Accredited) – Topics Include:
- The theory of assisting with medications
- The practical skills required
- A practical workplace assessment (see criteria below)
A Statement of Attainment is issued on completion.
Part Unit of Competency (Non-Accredited) – Topics Include:
- The theory of assisting with medications
- The practical skills required
A Statement of Participation is issued on completion.
Workplace Assessment Criteria (Accredited only)
To complete the Full Unit of Competency (Accredited) HLTHPS006 Assist Clients with Medications, the learner is to attend the one-day class and then undertake a workplace assessment.
The learner arranges their own workplace assessment, which is to be undertaken by an employee in their own workplace who is either a qualified registered nurse or registered enrolled nurse or registered Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander health practitioner. (Assessors must satisfy the standards for RTOs 2015/AQTF mandatory competency requirements).
Learners are to follow workplace policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. They will need to demonstrate providing assistance with medication:
- To at least 5 different clients according to support plans
- With at least 5 different types of medication
- Using at least 3 different modes of administration
Enrolment Requirements:
There are no prerequisites for enrolling in this unit.
As an Elective Unit
HLTHPS006 Assist Clients with Medications course is offered as a stand-alone course/unit or as an elective unit for our Certificate IV in Ageing Support, and is an accredited course where upon completion a Statement of Attainment will be issued.

- $125 – Part Unit of Competency (Non-Accredited)
